Violinists Mike and Lauren Williams focus on providing the Mount Pleasant and Charleston community with high level music instruction in violin & viola performance, teaching suzuki violin and a variety of styles from classical to jazz, celtic/fiddle, and others. Be part of a music program at East Cooper Music. We provide violin and viola lessons, a Suzuki Violin Class for kids, and recitals at the end of each semester. For more advanced students, performing and gig opportunities are given through our music ensemble, the Palmetto Strings.

Beginners – Suzuki and Mark O’Connor Methods

We teach beginners from the Suzuki Violin method, great for children and the Mark O’Connor method, for a more contemporary method, starting with simple American fiddle tunes.

Intermediate / Advanced Students

Classical – For students that have some scales and pieces under their belt, they can branch out to certain styles. For students pursuing a career in Classical Performance, they may continue through the Suzuki series, and then work on Sonatas, and Concertos. Classical Pieces typically have a Piano accompaniment for recitals.

Jazz, Bluegrass, Celtic/Fiddle -  Working through the Mark O’Connor method and possible Jazz standards, students will learn how get a desired ‘tone and style’ from their playing.  More music theory, improvisation, and bow technique is incorporated in the lessons.
